Dragon Challenge Roller Coaster

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is now open at Universal Orlando Islands of Adventure. One attraction, is the worlds only dueling inverted roller coaster, known as the Dragon Challenge.

Most individuals that have visited the park in the past will realize this isn’t exactly a new coaster, in fact, it was most recently known as the Dueling Dragons roller coaster. It was transformed into Dragon Challenge and is based on the Triwizard Tournament from Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire.

The queue area, however, is new and very cool. It snakes through the claustrophobic castle passages as you await your challenge.

Once through the line you choose your dragon, either the ferocious Hungarian Horntail or the aggressive Chinese Fireball. The laden dragons are weighed before the ride begins to make sure the timing of the duels provide the near miss experience. The dragons climb the lift hill and then split into two opposing rides reaching speeds of 55mph. The roller coasters duel each other 5 times passing within 18? in places and narrowly missing castle walls. Enjoy the feeling of gliding towards the ground and then suddenly swooping up into another inversion on this magical rollercoaster.

Five inversions, corkscrew, immelmann loop, cobra roll, vertical loops, and near misses with a dueling coaster make it worth waiting for front row seats.

Dragon Challenge is my favorite roller coasters in Orlando, having ridden both dragons many times, I still don’t have a favorite. I am addicted to the smooth exhilarating speed and thrilling ride of these unmissable coasters.

Dragon Challenge is 125ft high with drop of 115ft. Awesome 2 minutes 25 seconds unique roller coaster, not to be missed.

  1. Woah, great video! I felt like I was actually riding this coaster! The Dragon Challenge is definitely something I want to conquer in my life time. I LOVE roller coasters! Thanks for this awesome review and the video in first-person view!

  2. I may not be as enthusiastic about roller coasters as other people are, but I have tried a few in my lifetime. I considered trying another one sometime soon just to feel younger again.

  3. The scenes in the castle help me get a clue as to what to expect. The same is true for the live video. 🙂

  4. This may not be the fastest or the largest or the longest (from what I know) but it still appears to be exciting. I would give it a chance.
